Beginner's Basketball Rules
BEGINNERS BASKETBALL LEAGUE
- Each community representative will form coed teams. If numbers allow, two levels will be formed, one for Kindergarten, and one for First Grade.
- League will be played at 8 foot baskets on a full court and use a 25-inch diameter ball.
- An 8-minute running clock will be used for the 4 quarters. The clock will stop for time outs only.
- One coach is allowed on the court during play.
- The defense will stay in the lane until the ball is shot.
- One ref will be used per game. Home team will pay the ref and the timekeeper if timekeepers are used. Refs are not a requirement for the game. When possible the home community will provide a ref. When provided the refs are paid $10 per game. (Typically the refs will be young people learning to ref a game). When refs are not used, a timekeeper must be provided by the home community and be paid by the home team.
- No score will be kept.
- Fouls may be called, but no free throws will be awarded. The fouled team will in bound the ball.
- Teams may practice 15 minutes prior to their scheduled games. Any other practices are at the discretion of the community and available gym times.
- Fastbreaks should be avoided. If more than two occur in a game the referee will whistle for play to stop until the defensive team can get into position in the box.
- PRACTICE WILL NOT BEGIN UNTIL DECEMBER. Teams will play 8 game starting in January.
- There is no tournament.
